I’ve been involved in athletics since I was eight and I loved it right from the start. Hedevallen in Tanum was my second home and my trainer Benny Svensson became a really important figure in my life. In those first few years, I tried all sorts of different disciplines, from throwing to long-distance, but in the end I decided to specialise in hurdles and sprint.
I am a very driven person, which has got me through various setbacks and injuries. I’m almost always at my best when it really counts and over the years I’ve managed to collect a range of Swedish national medals of various colours. In summer 2009, I took part in an international event, which was a brilliant experience!
My goals for the future are to qualify for a junior championship in the next few years and then to try and break into the senior competition. I’m going to continue pushing the boundaries and try to improve as much as I can.
Favourite clothing:
Swedemount has helped me with my athletics by providing clothing that is both good-looking and high quality. Their Running Collection is ideal for me! I like the way they have great clothes for both the winter and summer seasons. My absolute favourites are the long tights and the layer 2 microfleece.
Good news ahead of Swedish Championships! 2012-02-17
The Philipson Games were last weekend (11th of February) in the Våxnäs arena, a small competition that became a kind of rehearsal due to the Swedish Championships.
I finally got a break from all the things that has happened and won. I also had a new season record, which feels great. The race although was far from perfect, I had a bad start and was way behind my fellow competitors the first part of the race. Despite of this I won, and time was 7.70. This means that I’m the 17th fastest senior and the 7th fastest junior under the age of 22.
This result I hope to improve when the Swedish Championships is taking place February 18. My goal is to make a new season record, which can lead me to the finale.
I’m also going to run 60 metres and run a relay 4200 metres.
In the relay competition we in IF Göta Karlstad has a big chance of winning, so I’m looking forward to be a part of the team.
Norrköping indoor games 2012-02-07
On January 27 to 29 I competed in Norrköping, it was time for 60 meters again. The start field was very good, with both the number one in Sweden and the not so unfamiliar Carolina Klüft.
That weeks traing had gone well, so I was hopeful for the race! The result was 7.79 and a fifth place, which is decent. It felt really good during full speed but the acceleration was dreadful. I need to work on that area of my running. I feel like my technique has improved since last summer, now I just have to fill it with speed. I’m really looking forward to exercise.
Season start 2012-01-27
Gota youth game is a major competition for the younger classes. Even senior class were present, with fewer competitors but still a high level.
My branch of the day was 60m, which I ran at 7.84 in the trials and 7.90 in the final. This was enough for a fourth place.
I went into the contest with 10-days cold behind me, which I felt already at the warming-up. Although it was time to start up the season!
The acceleration in the race was powerless. It is usually my best part of the race, but now I lost to my competitors. My season debut is done and now I look forward to better races and better times!
Now I train to increase my leg strength.
See you soon!
Good pressure in the starting block! 2011-12-23
I’ve begun with the season training, which gives a really good feeling in my legs. I’ve become more explosive and this is evident when we are running short sprint training. The first 30 metres have never been so good as it is now. The pressure on the starting block is just as good as perfect. The one thing I need to give more training to is the full speed running. To make this better, I do several sprint endurance workouts in a week. We find details that I improve as well as I can every time. It feels like I’m doing progress, let’s just hope that it shows in the results.
Some time ago I chose to end my studies with the reason that it didn’t feel right. I’ve begun to work instead and thanks to my colleagues I've been given new motivation. Because of this motivation I feel that I’ve been developed as an athlete
Extended training gives results 2011-11-29
During the autum I’ve done rehabilitation training every other day and the eight training sessions a week, I normally have. Autumn has therefore contained greater volume of training then I am used to. I started rehab in September and now, two months after, I finally feel the result.
The pain I earlier had in my knees is basically gone. It feels very good because I have struggled with problems since last summer.I feel more explosive and balanced in my body, because of all the rehab.Last week I did my first session with spike shoes since last summer, which seemed strange, of course, but really nice.
The running this autumn has only been in the hills, because it is more gentle on my knees. To finally get to run without slope and without pain was a good sign that it's going in the right direction for me.
During last week I performed some tests. Because of the damage I haven’t been able to jump or perform full barbell training. I did not expect any "wow result".Nevertheless, it went beyond my expectations and I was really happy.
News about me is that I changed club, Tanum IF is now history. Starting fom the indoor season, I am with IF Göta Karlstad. It was an obvious choice for me because I live in Karlstad and feel at home there.I train with Göta's active and by changing club, I am even more "one of the gang." I look forward to a season in the new race suit!
Tough season 2011-09-29
After the competition in Arvika, where I made my seasonal best of 12.11 seconds, I had my mind focused on DN Galan Youth. The training I did before DN-galan felt good, but I felt some pain in my knee. When I arrived in Stockholm and stood on the start line, this pain was starting to be felt more. Half the race went fine, but the last 50 meters was really painful. This unfortunately affected the outcome.
Despite this, I kept up hope and started in Karlstad on the GP competition, the next scheduled race. Unfortunately I experienced my bad knee again, which was shown in the results list once again.
After the competition in Karlstad it was three weeks until the Swedish Championship. I decided to slow down on the training and get treatments, in the hope that my knee would be fine. I went to Vellinge where the Swedish Championship was held and took a leap of faith. My expectations were high because this was the largest goal I had for the summer.
I really tried the best I could, but once again, the knee stopped me on getting superposition. All I could do was going home and start rehab that has given good result so far. Despite the surprising finish of the outdoor season I’m very happy if I look at the whole season. I ran on a new personal best (12.11), I competed in a National team competition in Germany, National team training for relay and I was the 5th fastest junior in Sweden.
Trainingcamp in Portugal - April & May 2011 2011-07-15
Together with IF Göta Karlstad I went to Albufeira in Portugal to prepare myself for the season in the best way. Albufeira is the atlethic mecca so we arrived in an environment where athlets from all over Europe was, everything from World Cup gold medalists to youths.
During the two weeks I was there I really found my shape, due to the perfect weather conditions and good training opportunities. We were a big group from Karlstad that together pushed eachother to the limit during every workout, which led to that many of us raised to another level.
It was really nice to be able to prioritize training and not have school to think about! Good and healthy food was served to us from morning to evening, which also contributed to a better result. The training was tailored to prepare us for the upcoming competitions. The spiked shoes were on and the workouts became more and more like competitions.
This made me feel the urge for a competition season in Sweden, so I didn’t feel at all sad to go home. My first summer season since 2009 was approaching! But despite this I missed it when I was back home.
It was two really fun weeks and I felt that I would like to have it like this more often. Being able to put training first every day is something I long for and will fight to achieve!
Competition premiere - May & June 2011 2011-07-15
In June I was in several competions and went from okay to really good. The premiere took place in Sollentuna and it didn’t feel very good. I ran both the 200m and 100m at times that weren’t remarkable. I did better two years ago.
I wasn’t so surprised though, because I know that you need some competitions to find the right shape. Therefore, I competed fairly intensive in June, just to get back the competition habit. This resulted in a new personal best at 100m!
June 6th in Kil I ran on the new record 12.11. It’s a time that is only a few hundredths from the district record and it meant that I was among the best juniors in Sweden this year. Thanks to the time I got to go to Gothenburg and train relay with the junior national team for future possible championships! Chances were that we could qualify to the junior Europe championship and the Nordic championship later this summer.
The season had now started in a really good way and I looked forward to faster times and bigger competitions.
Indoor season 2012 2012-01-27
Although my season start was so great, I feel good about the start of races. Now I have a result, to build upon and hopefully improve!
This is my season:
Gota Youth Game 22 / 1
Norrköping, Indoor Games, 29 / 1
Gothenburg Indoor 4 / 2
The Philipson Game (Phoenix) 11 / 2
SM Örebro 18-19/2
JSM Bollnäs 25-26/2
Time to compete 2011-11-29
This autumn has been filled with rehab training, I am now ready to compete again! I plan to start with the competition at Örebro Indoor Games January 14th – 15th and the following weekend at home on the Göta Ungdomsspel in Våxnäs Hall.
Basic training until next season 2011-09-30
During the outdoor season, I’ve had problems with my knee. Now I look forward to be able to do basic training. It’s a tough period until Christmas with eight workouts per week, and those aren’t easy. It’s about keeping myself healthy and feeling motivated. Right now my knee is better and I hope to be fully recovered in a few weeks.
2011-07-27
In the end of April we go to Portugal 2011-04-05
The last competition for me was in the end of February. I ended the indoor season a bit earlier than planned because of an injury in the hollow of my knee. But the indoor season went well anyway, I was the 4th quickest 19-yearold at the 60 m with the time 7.72.
Now we are in the middle of a build-up training and the last month has been hard training. That means eight training sessions a week with a lot of power and interval training. This time has also contained some practice for me to get rid of my knee injury. It has progressed well and after rehabilitation, acupuncture and new insoles, my injury is much better. Now we have started more with quality training.
In the end of April we go to Portugal for training camp where we are going to shape top to the first competitions that well take place in May.
Götas ungdomsspel 2011-01-24
I have now done my second big competition since the injury and I´m already starting to feel that I am back on track! During warm-up I already felt that my body was in better shape than last week. After the race I now know that I had a much higher pressure in my acceleration.
Last weekend I lost speed after 25 meters but know I got speed for longer time and could maintain speed for longer time.
Quality training on the schedule 2011-01-12
After christmas we started quality training, that means simply less training but higher quality. The training is more like a competition so to speak. I have started to get both the speed and the frequency back, the frequency is what has been the hardest to catch up after my injury. Strength has progressed for some time now and last week I managed to do a 100 kg full squat! It is a limit I have wanted to cross for a long time, so it felt good to finally do it. My technique has also become better, something that is very important when you practice squat. The risk of injuries is big if you start to lift the wrong way at that heavy weights!
Next Saturday it is time for competition again! I am running the 60 m in Örebro at the first competition in their new indoor arena. It feels very good because my last competition was in February. This makes me feel a bit more nervous than I usually do, but I just go with it! After Örebro there are contests every weekend until the Swedish championship that takes place around 14-27th of February. During competition time the training gets easier and we are going to shape top for the Swedish championship, which is my most important competition this winter. We have few but quick contests and when it comes to barbell I do 4 sets of 1 repetition. That is a big difference to build-up training when one training session can contain 20 intervals and one training session with the barbell is always many more liftings than 4 sets of 1 repetitions.
Something I am focusing on right now is the right recovery after training. Immediately when I come home I drink a glass of milk and eats a banana. The milk proteins has unique qualities that are good for recovery, and milk protein as a combination with carbohydrates gives good recovery and performance development. That is why I always eat it after training, besides it is cheaper than many recovery drinks you can buy! During autumn I have been sick once in a while and have been extra careful when it comes to vitamins. Besides my daily vitamins I always take a vitamin C after training. This is because the immune system is at its lowest when you are exhausted and jaded.
Focusing on the Junior Swedish nationals 2010-10-25
Ahead of me is the gruelling build-up training that’s already into its first month. It’s going really well, considering the injury I’ve had since spring.
If all goes to plan, I’ll start competing again in early January. My goal for this indoor season is firstly to get back to the form of last year and then hopefully I’ll be able to achieve a medal in the Junior nationals and a good placing in the Senior nationals. These competitions are at the end of my indoor season, in late February.
In spring I’ll be training even more so that I’m in top form for the start of the qualifiers at the end of May. My aim is to qualify for the 100m for 19 year-olds at the European Juniors in Tallinn. To make sure I hit my best form, I’m going to a training camp with the athletics college for two weeks in early May. It will probably be in Spain or Portugal.
Diet:
It can be hard to eat properly when you train a lot. The important thing is to consume everything you need and at the same time keep your energy levels up all day, without eating things you don’t need. My tip is to eat regularly, with a good breakfast, two cooked meals and several snacks.
My main focus is on having a good meal a few hours before training for peak performance during the session. Straight after training, I stock up on quick energy and then have an evening meal with plenty of protein, as that builds muscle.
I think you should cook food that you love and enjoy making. That makes it so much easier to eat well without it feeling like a chore.
Setbacks a challenge:
When you’re training practically every day, obviously it can’t be inspiring and fun all the time. On the days when things don’t go so well, I try to see the negative feelings or the heavy legs as a hurdle to be cleared or overcome. That makes it easier for me to turn a bad training session into something good and managing to do that makes me stronger. So my tip is to learn to see setbacks as challenges instead. That way, it’s much easier to get back to where you were before the injury, illness or poor form struck.
Sportswear:
When it comes to sportswear, I think the most important thing is the comfort and the look. If I feel that I look good, that gives my self-confidence a bit of a boost, and uncomfortable clothes are never any good.
For me, Swedemount’s sportswear fits the bill perfectly, plus it keeps me warm when I need it, as well as being nicely absorbent during really sweaty training sessions. I also like the fact that the clothes in Swedemount’s collection go with each other, so you can mix and match a little and always look great!
One tip for anyone training is not to uncover too much. Muscles like warmth, so it’s better to wear one layer too many than vice versa. Swedemount’s clothing makes it easy to regulate your temperature, since it’s all based on layering.
