Training in Switzerland, Austria, Italy and the odd trip to Norway.
Achievements:
I have previously come 2nd and 3rd in the Vasaloppet ski race and won the cross-country world cup. My goal is to win the Vasaloppet and become the world’s top cross-country skier.
Favourite clothing:
The superb new Wasa Race Underwear is outstanding. It fits so well and is fantastic in both hot and cold weather. It absorbs sweat better than anything else I’ve tried. A must for every wardrobe.
The polo shirt made of bamboo fibres is the perfect travel shirt. I always wear it when I’m on the move. It has the incredible ability to keep you warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s hot. You never get sweaty or smelly even on long trips.
The shell jacket is a fantastic jacket with all the features I need. It looks great and is brilliantly waterproof. It also takes up no space at all in your suitcase or rucksack. I always have it with me in the spring when I do my peak-to-peak skiing to protect me from wind and water. I also use it an awful lot just out and about.
Last Sunday it was time for the fourth race in the Ski Classics 2012. Tartu Marathon in Estonia, 63 km along a slightly undulating and beautiful path. It’s a classic race between the World Cup city Otepää and Elva.
Jerry Ahrlin finished on a fourteenth place and he is now at an overall fourth place so far in the tournament, while his team Team Xtra Personell are on top among the competing teams.

This Sunday the Ski Classics-race König Ludwig Lauf took place. Jerry Ahrlin placed second in the race for Team Xtra Personel. At the finish line it was so close between Jerry and Stanislav Rezác that a photo examination was required to appoint the winner. Behind him was teammate Jörgen Aukland.
Best Swede in this year’s Marcialonga! 2012-01-30
The last three kilometers to the finish is one long uphill climb. When Jorgen Aukland, Anders Aukland and Jerry Ahrlin stumbled uphill climb to the finish in Cavalese, the other could not keep up. Unfortunately, Jerry finally had to give in for the Czech Stanislav Rezac and finished fourth. Congratulations to a good race and a great team effort!
Dolomitenlauf, check! 2012-01-27
Jerry Ahrlin won the Dolomiten Classic Race in Austria, January 21. The race was 42 km long and he bet the winner of this year's Jizerska Padesatka, Stanislav Rezac with only four seconds. Jerry finished at 1:55:39,94. Congratulations!
Now, focus on Marcialonga!
Dolomitenlauf in Austria? 2012-01-19
The family has suffered from fever and stomach bug, which means that planning is a bit unclear right now. Possibly I will be participating in Dolomitenlauf in Austria on January 20. Otherwise, I stand over it to prepare myself and try to win Marcialonga for a a 4th time. The week after Marcialonga is Koning Ludwig Lauf in Germany. Now I try to get well and then I focus on weight training to get strong for the coming races.

Inspiring training 2011-09-29
Jerry are now in the days working as an instructor for the training project “Träna för Vasan”. “Träna för Vasan” is an opportunity for those who have an interest in training, technic, skiing and questions about material.
The project is running and on October 1 there will be testing of roller skis.
This could be a huge opportunity for those who seek inspiration for training individual and in group. There is no demand that the participants will attend Vasaloppet or other competition
This training project is for people that have interest in skiing and that wants to improve their knowledge in training and cross-country skiing.
Träna för Vasan 2011-09-08
Träna för Vasan is a place where we experienced can share knowledge, inspiration and community around training. A concept where everyone can develop to become a better skier, whether you are a beginner or elite exerciser.
Now we are very pleased to announce that Swedemount will join as a partner and clothing sponsor for Träna för Vasan. It is always important to have really good and functional clothes!
Training in the ski tunnel 2011-08-11
August 21 to 24, I'm at a training camp in Torsby and of course I'm bringing my Wasa Race, the ultimate base layer. The fitting is unsurpassed and the Seamless-technology makes it seem to be glued on to my body. Here in Torsby you can find Sweden's first and only ski tunnel for training in the summer. The length of the trail is 1.3 km, arena included. The ski tunnel is located above ground and therefore follows the natural terrain elevation by about 12 meters difference between the highestand lowest points. Here I work in two classic tracks and two skating tracks. The total ascent for skiing one lap is about 25 meters and the temperature is between 0 and -3 degrees, so it's comfortable to train in the tunnel.

Final Ski Classics Final 2011 2011-04-04
This weekend was Ski Classics Final 2011. The sixth and last part of the competition was held in Norway. It is called Norefjellrennet and is a long-distance race for 65 kilometers, classic style. Jerry Ahrlin came in 12 with quite difficult snow conditions.
So this was the last part of the Ski Classics Champion race and we sum up and congratulate Jerry number two, after Stanislav Rezac, in the total competition.
Jerry Ahrlin came in third in Birkebeinerrennet, that took place last weekend.
Birkebeinerrennet starts in Rena and finishes in Lillehammer. The race is 54 kilometers long, classic style.
His third place in Birkebeinerrennet gave him the overall win in Långloppscupen.
The first time Jerry won the Långloppscupen was 2007 so now it was time again for the second time, congratulations!
Saturday the 2nd of April, Ski Classics final, Norefjellrennet 2011-03-11
On saturday the 2nd of April the Ski Classics final is run at the race Norefjellrennet which took place for the first time in April 2010. The marvelous mountain landscape, where the race takes place, is only one and a half hour drive from Oslo and is 65 kilometers long.
Birkebeinerrennet 19th of March 2011-03-11
Jerry is now focusing on the race in Norway and the competing in Birkebeinerrennet which starts in Rena and finishes in Lillehammer on the 19th of March. The race is 54 kilometers long classic style. It is a special race where all competitors must carry a backpack, with a minimum weight of 3,5 kilos, from start to finish.
Congratulations Jerry, to a third place at Vasaloppet! 2011-03-06
Jerry Ahrlin had up to this day not yet won Vasaloppet. The conditions where perfect, sunshine, a degree of frost and good runs. Jerry went for victory this year.
Jerry, who raced today without sticky wax, started the competition without any problems. A consequence of skiing without sticky wax is that you have to use arms and cannot be helped by using the legs to make way. The sliding is much better though, Jerry went for speed and counted on the strength to be enough for the hills.
After 1 hour and 30 minutes, near Risberg, Jerry made a break-out who put much strain on the other competitors. The speed increased significant and Jerry created a big gap between himself and the chasing bunch.
After around two hours race Jerry approached Evertsberg, still with a proper gap to the chasing bunch. Jerry took the 10 000 swedish kronor spurt price at Evertsberg but at that point the chasing bunch had pulled up.
Between Evertsberg and Oxberg there was a group of five skiers who pulled away from the others. The speed was high and Jeery was ahead often to increase speed.
After 2 hours and 27 minutes, at the hills before Oxberg, the chasing bunch pulled forward again and this time Jerry and three other skiers did the outbreak. They where Jerry Ahrlin, Arne Post (Norway), Stanislav Rezac (The Czech Republic) and Anders Aukland (Norway). At the control at Oxberg the chasing bunch was still the same four skiers. Jerry looked very strong and the skis looked like they where sliding easily in the runs.
After Oxberg with about an hour to the finish in Mora, the chasing bunch went down to three skiers, when Arne post who had been chasing a lot did not pull up any longer. Jerry increased speed yet another time and the skiers divided slightly. But they got together quite quickly again.
At Hökberg the three first skiers (Jerry, Stanislav and Anders) still had a big lead to the other skiers, who was approaching the top three skiers. The speed at the front was a little lower, it felt like the skiers held position and saved up for the finishing battle.
After 3 hours and 18 minutes, just between Högberg and Eldris, Jörgen Brink took his whole strength and broke through from the big group of skiers and almost reached the chasing bunch. Jörgen who had lost position early because of a broken ski pole was now getting back for the fight for victory. After 3 hours and 27 minutes, just before the last control in Eldris, Jörgen Brink was reaching up to the first skiers, who now was a group of four: Jerry, Stanislav, Anders and Jörgen, of which both Jörgen and Anders had won Vasaloppet earlier.
On their way to the finish in Mora Jörgen did some short increase in pace that Jerry had no problems to keep up with. The other two at the front had a little hard time pulling up with this increases but got back when the speed was slowing down again.
With three kilometers to go they where still the four ones in the front and the mental battle was intense. When they passed Moraparken Anders Aukland was first, for the other three the finishing battle was now laying ahead of them.
At the finish Jörgen Brink took initiative and it became a struggle between Jörgen and Stanislav. Jerry came in at an honorable third place. Anders Aukland came in at fourth place.
Results for Jerry during the race

New big victory for Jerry Ahrlin 2011-02-06
Jerry Ahrlin who is competing for the Team Xtra Personell won the third part of König Ludwig Lauf, Ski classics.
Jerry was strong from the beginning and tried to break trough several times from the chasing bunch without any luck. He fought his way to a top position and when the chasing bunch came to the final stretch he passed the finish line as the first man.
In the struggle to win the Ski Classics Championship, Jerry Ahrlin is at third place with 211.
The next race in Ski Classics is Vasaloppet on the 6th of March.
Jerry won the Marcialonga -again 2011-01-30
Incredibly nice to win, says Jerry who earlier came 3-1-3-1 the four latest times the race was run. The race is 70 kilometers long and is run in the province of Trento, Italy.
Jerry kept a place around the front to begin with and became one of six skiers who took turns to increase speed. At the hard finish of the race Jerry fought his way to the leading position and held it all the way to the finish.

Diet for success:
Success as a skier is not just about the optimum training schedule. The results over the winter depend a huge amount on your life outside skiing. One of the key parts of the jigsaw is diet.
When I’m training, the body is fragile and open to illness and injury, so it’s imperative to eat good food of a high quality and of a quantity that replenishes calories burnt during the day. This means that I can’t really consume enough at the usual mealtimes, so I have to top up my energy levels several times a day.
- Breakfast
- Energy drink after session, or banana or similar
- Lunch
- Snack
- Energy drink after training, or banana or similar
- Dinner
- Supper
I try to have a varied diet and to eat fruit and salad at mealtimes, but otherwise I eat basically the usual home cooking. This suits me fine and I don’t see why I should make life too complicated. For me the important thing is simplicity, whether in my training or my diet.
Training schedule:
As a skier, the period when we have no snow is crucial. It’s often said that a skier is born in the summer. Much of the time we spend training is actually in the months from May until the snow falls. My training mostly comprises various kinds of running plus rollerskating and blading, as well as ski walking. At other times, I head for a good glacier to get in some training on snow.
In total, I train for about 20 hours a week, split into 10 sessions with two rest days. My time is usually divided into 3 sessions of interval training and 2 of strength training. The rest is gentle long-distance exercises of various types. On really extreme weeks, I might train for as much as 30 hours, but then the intensity of the hardest sessions is usually dialled back a little.
A typical day of training might look like this:
07:00 Breakfast
08:00 Rollerblades 3 hours (first 2 hours with poles), approx. 55 km
11:30 Lunch
12:30 Rest (always try to get a little sleep)
15:00 Snack
15:30 Running 2 hours cross-country, approx. 22 km
18:00 Dinner
22:00 Sleep
